The Sunflower Lodge is a homely hostel nestled amongst native trees & bush just 1.5km from New Plymouth’s city centre, easily accessed off the arterial southern entrance to New Plymouth. It is the closest backpacker to Mount Taranaki.

New Plymouth is host to many natural attractions Pukekura Park, the Coastal Walkway & the Len Lye & Govett Brewster Art Gallery.
As well as events including: WOMAD, Powerco Garden Festival, ITU Triathlon, Americana, & Tattoo festival (so many more) every year, the lodge benefits greatly, with many customers re-booking a year in advance.
Our customers range from international & domestic independent travellers, seasonal workers, hiking, sports & school groups. Online bookings through YHA network, SunflowerLodge.co.nz, Agoda, Booking.com, Expedia, Wotif, Hostelworld, Bookit, BBH loyalty programme, Travelbug, I-Sites.
Ten private rooms & 6 dormitory rooms (4 per dorm), sleeping up to 45 people per night.
Facilities inc: a large kitchen, dining room & cosy lounge with modern TV & extensive DVD library. Wi-Fi coverage lodge wide. The BBQ area has views over the Te Henui river valley. Full laundry facilities available for guests.
The Lockwood design requires a lower level of building maintenance than traditional materials.
The manager’s accommodations has a sunny open plan living/kitchen/dining + bedroom. This can also be rented out.
Currently managed by one person with some casual additional help. Reception hours 2½ hrs per morning, and 5 hours in the afternoon/evening.
